Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the core programs at Precision. We offer several classes, suitable for beginner to advanced, and both Gi and No-gi. Students in our BJJ program span a wide range, from those just looking to get a great workout to those competing in regional and national tournaments. Precision is a member of the International BJJ Federation (IBJJF), and we offer the highest-level instruction in the Corvallis area, led by black belt Professor Tyrone Angolia.
BJJ is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on take-downs and ground fighting. It uses leverage and movement, chokes, and joint locks to control opponents. BJJ has both a sport and a self-defense side, and we teach both at Precision. Our instructors have experience in both training competitors and in teaching BJJ’s traditional self-defense aspects.
Beginner BJJ
Our beginner BJJ class is designed for both beginners and more experienced martial artists looking to improve their BJJ basics. This class will teach you the fundamental techniques in modern BJJ, and how to put them together into effective combinations. Professor Tyrone Angolia explores the dynamics of sweeping, passing, and finishing in sport Gi Jiu Jitsu in this drill-oriented class.
All levels BJJ
Building on the skills learned in the BJJ Fundamentals class, Professor Angolia goes deeper into the techniques of modern BJJ. Each position is explored in depth over a number of weeks, addressing the variations, particulars of Gi grips and hook play, with plenty positional sparring to ensure that students gain mastery of the techniques. Professor Angolia creates a friendly, upbeat class with individualized focus to help blue belt to brown belt improve their BJJ.
All levels No-Gi Jiu Jitsu
No-Gi Jiu Jitsu uses many of the same motions and moves as Gi Jiu Jitsu, but is faster and focused on movement. It serves as a natural bridge to MMA or can hone your movement skills in traditional Gi BJJ.
